Life without a Triumph Spitfire proved hard to accept as I searched for another sports car during 2013-2014.
My budgetary restrictions kept at the low end of the sports car market - no TVR's, Lotus, Jaguars, or even chrome bumper MGB's as all were too pricey. My search included a Fiat 124 Spider, a '73 MG Midget RWA, a few post-1975 MGB's and a few Triumph Spitfires. The Fiat turned out to be a rust bucket and I could not find basic parts support. The Midget owner changed his mind after I left a deposit and returned the funds. The MGB's turned out to be just out of financial reach. That left Spitfires and best one of the bunch turned out the be the ugliest.
So I wound up with a 1980 Spitifre, produced in February ,1980, the last formal year of production. It's a Disco-era car with houndstooth black and white seats and an electric "Pageant Blue" exterior. The good news is that it spent a lot of its life in a barn, had less than 40,000 miles, and appeared to be unmolested. Oh, yes, it was also affordable for me.
It's been fettled a bit and has taken its first long trips of 200 + miles. Check out the blog to see its most recent adventures.
